Agreement
These terms apply to every tool published under makeshortwork.com. By using
any of them you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the tools.
The service is free. There is no account for most tools, nothing to install, and no usage limit. It is paid for by advertising, which is covered in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.
The tools are provided as they are, with no warranty of accuracy
This is the part that matters, so it comes first and it is written plainly rather than in legal boilerplate.
Every tool here is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of any kind. No warranty that a result is correct, current, complete, or fit for the purpose you have in mind. We build these carefully and we check the formulas. We are still not promising the number is right, and you should not act as though we did.
Formulas, rates, thresholds and standards go out of date. Specifically:
- Tax rates, contribution ceilings and withholding tables change every year, sometimes mid-year.
- Statutory formulas for employment and family law change, and differ by state and by country.
- Electrical, structural and building codes are revised on a cycle, and local amendments override the national text.
- Clinical equations are superseded, and the one a given laboratory or hospital reports may not be the one used here.
- Prices and exchange rates come from third-party feeds that can be delayed, wrong or unavailable.
A tool cannot know your jurisdiction, your contract, your local code amendment, your medical history or the exception that applies to your case. It applies a general formula to the numbers you typed. That is genuinely useful for orientation, for a sanity check, for an estimate. It is not a substitute for a qualified professional, and it never becomes one.
Never make a driving decision using the Blood Alcohol Calculator. The Widmark equation it uses is a population estimate. Real blood alcohol concentration varies enormously with body composition, food, hydration, medication, liver function, drinking rate and sex, and the honest error bar on any estimate is wide enough to put someone on either side of a legal limit. That tool exists to show how the variables interact and how uncertain the result is. It cannot tell you whether you are safe or legal to drive, and it is not evidence of anything. If you have been drinking, do not drive. There is no version of this calculation that makes that advice different.
Tools where a wrong answer has real consequences
These need a qualified professional before you act. We are naming them individually because a generic disclaimer at the bottom of a page is not a warning anyone reads.
| Tool | Who you need instead |
|---|---|
| Blood Alcohol Calculator | Nobody. There is no safe use of this for a driving decision. See the box above. |
| Creatinine Clearance Calculator | A physician or clinical pharmacist. Cockcroft-Gault and CKD-EPI give different numbers on purpose, renal drug dosing depends on which one your institution uses, and neither is valid in unstable renal function, extremes of body weight, pregnancy or amputation. Never adjust a dose, yours or anyone's, on the basis of this page. |
| Wire Size Calculator | A licensed electrician. Ampacity and voltage drop are only two of the inputs that decide a conductor. Temperature correction, conduit fill, continuous-load factors, termination ratings, breaker coordination and your local code amendments all govern, and undersized wiring is a fire, not an error message. Any installation needs a qualified electrician and inspection. |
| Severance Pay Calculator | An employment lawyer. What you are owed depends on your contract, your collective agreement, the reason for termination and the law where you work, none of which a calculator sees. |
| Alimony Calculator | A family lawyer. State formulas are starting points, many are advisory rather than binding, and judicial discretion routinely changes the outcome. |
| Paycheck, overtime and salary tools | Your payroll department or an accountant, before you rely on a figure for anything. |
| Structural and building calculators: rebar, stair, roofing, fence, asphalt, drywall, insulation | An engineer or licensed contractor. These estimate quantities. They do not certify that a structure is safe or that a design meets code. |
| Water Intake Calculator | A doctor, if you have a heart, kidney or liver condition, or take medication that affects fluid balance. General guidance does not apply to those situations. |
| Financial and property calculators: loan, cap rate, DSCR, LTV, break-even, currency, crypto | A qualified adviser. Nothing here is financial, investment or tax advice, and no output is an offer, a quote or a valuation. |
No professional relationship is created by using this site. Nothing here is legal, medical, financial, tax, engineering or safety advice. Using a tool does not make us your lawyer, your doctor, your accountant or your engineer, and no duty of care arises from us publishing a page you happened to read.
Acceptable use
You may use these tools for anything lawful, personal or commercial, at no cost. You may not:
- Break the law, or help someone else do it, using anything here.
- Attack or degrade the service. Automated scraping at volume, denial of service, probing for vulnerabilities, or attempting to reach any system or data that is not deliberately public.
- Bypass, defeat or interfere with the advertising that pays for the site.
- Republish the tools as your own, mirror the site, or present our pages as if they were yours.
- Use the tools to process content you have no right to process, or to build something whose purpose is to harm people.
- Feed the CS2 skin alerts tool an email address that is not yours. That is why the first email is a confirmation and no alert sends until it is clicked.
- Misrepresent an output of these tools as a professional opinion, an official figure, or a certified result.
We can rate-limit, block or refuse service to anyone doing any of the above, without notice. In practice this only ever applies to automated abuse.
Intellectual property
The pages, layout, text, design, code and name of this network belong to us and are protected by copyright. You may link to any page freely, and quoting a short passage with attribution and a link is fine. Copying whole pages, republishing the text, or reproducing the tools is not.
What you put in and what comes out is yours. We claim no rights over the files you convert, the text you format or the numbers you calculate. In most tools we never receive any of it. The processing happens in your browser, as described in the privacy policy.
Some tools use open-source libraries, which remain under their own licences and belong to their authors. Trademarks, product names and logos mentioned on comparison pages belong to their owners; naming a product is not a claim over it and does not imply any endorsement, affiliation or sponsorship in either direction.
If you believe something here infringes your copyright, tell us through the contact page with enough detail to identify the material and we will look at it.
Advertising and third-party content
The ads on this site are selected and served by Google, not by us. We do not choose which advertisers appear, we do not review their sites, and we do not endorse them. If an ad is misleading or offensive, report it to Google, and tell us too, because we can block categories.
Some tools call outside services for live data, such as exchange rates and cryptocurrency prices. That data is theirs, it comes with no guarantee from them or from us, and it can be delayed or simply wrong. Do not settle a transaction on it.
Links to other sites are for convenience. We are not responsible for anything on the other end of a link.
CS2 skin alerts
That tool has an account and some extra rules. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Valve Corporation. Prices come from Steam's public endpoints and may be stale, incomplete or unavailable. An alert is a best-effort notification, not a guaranteed one. We do not promise it will arrive, arrive on time, or arrive at all, and no trading decision should depend on it firing. You are responsible for your Steam account and for keeping your alert email address current. We may delete inactive accounts and their alerts.
Availability
We make no promise that the site will be available, uninterrupted or error-free. Tools may be changed, moved or withdrawn at any time without notice. Results and features can change between visits, so if a figure matters to you, record it rather than assuming the page will produce the same one tomorrow.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, these tools. That includes lost profit, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, and any indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damage, and it includes loss arising from a result that turned out to be wrong.
Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the service, which is zero.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; the rest still does.
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the tools or your breach of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil, where the site is operated from, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are subject to the Brazilian courts.
If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-law rules of the country where you live, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Not enforcing a term on one occasion does not waive it. These terms, together with the privacy and cookie policies, are the whole agreement between us about the use of this site.
Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page changes, and continuing to use the tools after that means you accept the new version. Material changes will be announced on the site rather than made quietly.
Contact
